By an act of the General Assembly, "An act legalizing certain official acts performed by Edward C. Davis, as register of the Land Office, and for other purposes," passed February 8, 1810, Davis was empowered to withdraw bundles of surveys from the office, make the entries in these volumes, and return the documents. Recorded in columns are the names of the proprietors of the land, the number of acres in the tract, the county in which the land lay, any assignments endorsed thereon or made separately, and any other papers annexed or enclosed. Davis's statements that he had received and returned the records appear periodically, but in each instance, his signature has been removed from the books. The final pages of the second Assembly during the session of 1810/1811. Information recorded in columns includes the names of the grantees, the book and page in which the grant is recorded, the number of acres in the tract, and the name of the person to whom the grant was delivered.
